Project title:
LITERATURE TRANSLATION AS CONTEXTUAL UNDERSTANDING AND CHALLENGE
Introduction:
Norwegian language, literature and culture ─ an important part of the study
programme curriculum are subjects focusing on bright knowledge of Norwegian
society items and cultural management. Several students are interested in to be
professional translator from Norwegian or editors at publishing houses in Czech
Republic. The translation praxis is evidently going direction technological methods by
the support of AI. We are awared of the importance of use and application of the
newest approaches, but we cannot deny the high requirements and responsibility of
the human translation commander. Therefore our students and graduates should be
acquianted with the complexity and variety of aspects of life in Norway today, which
we consider to be a necessary condition for their future profession. With other words
in order to be able to cooperate and communicate with the technologies in the best
effective way, they must both manage the skills and understand the existing contexts
in literature, culture and society in Norway.
The plan of the excursion:
To visit capitol´s museums (National Museum, Munch Museum, Nobel Center) as well
as other culture institutions (Roma Center, National Library, Norla) together in the
group using Oslo Pass. An important aspect of the plan is that that students should
visit Norway not in the role of tourists, but in the role of students with their language
and specialization background. To experience the first encounter with Norway within
the limited time is possible only thanks to the extraordinary contact network of the
coordinator of the project (I have been active as university teacher in fact over 30
years and have collaborated with various universities and institutions in Norway,
especially in Oslo). The group would have a meeting prof. Ståle Dingstad at the Oslo
University and Madelen Brosvold at the Oslo Met. These personalities are not
included in the budget, because they are willing to meet our student group free of
charge.
The aim of the project is student´s cultural encounter with Norway, the experience of
this excursion will be integrated in the curriculum, ECTS points will be awarded in
2025 and the implementation will be carried out also in the semesters to come
(translatology, cultural management). The excursion will be documented at the
webside of our Department. The planned activities will contribute to strengthen
Norwegian language education at our faculty. The planned activities have potential to
create long-term effects for the curriculum of our students and for our cooperation
with several institution in Norway (Norla, Oslo Met, Jewish Museum).
